10 Reasons to get up this Morning

Sometimes when you’re going through a really hard time or are depressed or anxious or are thinking too much or just seem to have the weight of the world on you, it’s extremely hard to wake up in the morning.

Sometimes you need the extra sleep because you have nightmares or insomnia or anything else that could be keeping you up. You might have a self-harm addiction and did it the night before and are just dreading to have to wake up and see what you have done to yourself or scared to show your skin.

You might have cried yourself to sleep, have bags under your eyes that go for miles, and you can just feel how puffy your eyes are even before looking at a mirror. You might be so down that you can’t stand to look in a mirror…or at people.

Maybe you could be feeling numb and don’t want to get up to face the day to have to fake the emotions or, heaven forbid, actually feel those emotions—and that just can’t happen so I cannot get up because that is just too much to bear today. Or at times, you don’t know why. You don’t know why you just can’t get out of bed and you just want to sleep all day.

Or maybe not even sleep. Maybe just lying there will solve your problems, even though you know that won’t happen, but isn’t it nice to think that?

I get it. I really do get it. Those are rough days. If you’re reading this from the bed, I applaud you for finding this post somehow. If you’re reading this from out of bed, I am so proud of you and so happy that you fought one of the many battles I know you have.

So, I’ve come up with a list that maybe you can print out or write down or just remember so that you can see all of the amazing reasons to get up.

  1. A Beautiful World

Cheesy, I know, but there’s such an amazing world out there to explore. Whether you live in the city or out in a small town, there’s something beautiful about the place you live. It’s a beautiful world that’s just waiting to be seen. By you.

  1. Knowledge

I guess this is more of a passion that I have, but there are so many cool things to know about and explore. Different languages to learn. Galaxies to find. Maybe you can find the one saving grace that day and change your situation around. Who knows?

  1. Bodily Functions

As silly as this sounds, having to use the restroom or feed that growling tummy: it’s a reason to get up…and to try to stay up. It’s not as big of a motivation, but hey, you’ve got one.

  1. Why not?

I sometimes think that this might be a silly reason. But, you know, why not? Why not try again? Why not make this a better day? Why not, even though it’s hard beyond anything, get up this morning? There are so many negatives, why not try to be positive?

  1. Pets

If you’re lucky enough to have a fur baby, use them for motivation! They love you and need you to be there to love them.

  1. Second Chances

This one is really close to my heart. Every day, you have the chance to wake up and try everything over again. Wake up every day like you had amnesia. Try to forget that you self-harmed or cried or yelled or whatever. It’s a new day. It’s a second chance. What’s great, is when it comes to yourself, you have so many second chances.

  1. Music

“Where words fail, music speaks.” This quote by Hans Christian Anderson is the truth beyond truths. Find the music that can express how you feel. Listen to that music that can save your life. Music can be your saving grace

  1. Faith

Faith is such a huge thing when you’re going through so much and in a depression. I don’t just mean faith in God. I mean faith in things getting better. I mean faith in feeling happy again. Faith in the world, and I mean, one of the absolute biggest things to have faith in, faith in yourself!

  1. Loved ones

You hear this all the time and sometimes it’s a bit tiring to hear on repeat. But it’s extremely true! You have loved ones that care about you so much more than you realize. You have husbands or wives or sisters or dads or grandparents or even just the best friend you’ve had growing up: people love you!

  1. Yourself

In the end, you have to do things for yourself. If you’re like me, you tend to put yourself on the back burner. It’s so hard to put yourself first. It’s like my first post. It’s so hard to take care of yourself. But, if you feel like you’ve got no other reason to get up in the morning, then do it for yourself. Do it for the fact that you could make yourself better by maybe getting up this morning.
